Governor Biodun Oyebanji has secured the gubernatorial ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2026 election in Ekiti State, following his unanimous endorsement at a special convention held on Monday in Ado-Ekiti.
The process which involved 885 party representatives from the state's 16 local government areas, confirmed their support for Oyebanji as he aims for re-election.
The nomination convention was monitored by a 10-person panel led by Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, with Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo serving as the deputy head and Hon. Taiwo Sunmonu as the secretary.
The committee formally accepted Oyebanji's candidacy after the prior withdrawal of the only other cleared aspirant, Mrs. Atinuke Omolayo.
In the course of the proceedings, Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, proposed a resolution to affirm Oyebanji's nomination.
The resolution supported by the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Adeoye Stephen, who hailed the development as a landmark occasion for the party.
