PDP Split Widens as Faction Names Ohuabunwa Board of Trustees Chair

The issues within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have deepened after a faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, named former Senator Mao Ohabunwa as the chairman of the new Board of Trustees (BoT) on Friday.

The faction’s acting national chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, announced the change after a meeting in Abuja.

The group also named Hon. Isah Dansidi as secretary. The statement said the new board was chosen to bring “neutral and credible leadership” at a tense time for the party.

Leaders loyal to the Wabara-Makarfi camp have not accepted the new panel, and other party elders say the split will hurt PDP’s chance to act as one before the 2027 elections.

It remains to be seen if the Wabara-led board will respond in court or in party meetings, if national elders step in to mediate, and whether the split will affect planning for the party’s national convention and 2027 election work.

Party members and voters say they want calm and clear rules so the PDP can focus on winning back support.
