Police to Arraign Alleged Fake Agency DG Over Forgery, Impersonation

The Nigeria Police Force is set to arraign the self-acclaimed Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday over alleged forgery, impersonation and related offences.

Adeyemi and two others are facing an eight-count charge filed by police prosecutor Wisdom Madaki. The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025, was instituted on November 27, 2025.

According to court documents, Adeyemi allegedly operated the fictitious agency from the Federal Secretariat Complex, Phase III, Abuja, before his arrest. His planned arraignment was earlier postponed after he was reported to be ill when the matter came up on June 16.

The prosecution listed several witnesses, including the President's Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, civil servants, police officers and individuals allegedly posted to work at the non-existent agency.

Documentary evidence expected to be tendered includes the police investigation report, an alleged fake presidential appointment letter, petitions, official correspondence and bank-related documents.

The case stems from President Bola Tinubu's directive to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the activities of the alleged agency after the Presidency declared it fictitious.

Meanwhile, opposition parties have criticised the Senate's decision to suspend a separate legislative probe into the N1.3 billion allocation made to the purported agency in the 2026 Appropriation Act, insisting lawmakers must investigate how the agency secured public funding.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, African Democratic Congress and Labour Party argued that relying solely on the ICPC investigation would not address concerns surrounding the National Assembly's appropriation process.

They also called for greater transparency and accountability, with some opposition figures urging the President's Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to step aside pending the outcome of investigations.

The Senate had declined to launch an immediate investigation, saying it would await the outcome of the ICPC probe ordered by the President.

However, Senator Kawu Sumaila, who raised the issue during plenary, maintained that lawmakers must determine how the controversial budget allocation was included in the 2026 budget despite the Presidency's insistence that the agency had no legal existence.
