Race to the Finals Tightens as Quarterfinals Wrap Up in I Beg To Differ Season 9

The quarterfinal stage of the Season 9 I Beg To Differ Secondary School Debate Tournament has ended, producing two new semifinalists after a day of tight contests.

In the first debate on the motion “Environmental Protection Should Take Precedence Over Industrial Expansion,” Heritage Group of Schools defeated Timi Comprehensive College in a three-round battle.

Heritage Group of Schools won the presentation round 30–24, but Timi responded in the rebuttal round with a 30–26 victory, narrowing the gap to two points. Heritage regained control in the final round with a 30–25.5 score, sealing the win.

The final tally was 96 points for Heritage Group of Schools and 89.5 for Timi Comprehensive College, giving Heritage a unanimous decision and a place in the semifinals.

In the second debate on “Globalization Enriches Rather Than Erases National Culture,” Straight Gate High School edged out Kings and Queenies Zenith School by split decision.

Straight Gate took the first round 29–28 and the rebuttal round 30–27. Both teams tied in the closing round, but Straight Gate’s early lead secured their semifinal slot.

With the quarterfinals concluded, the semifinal debates resume on Thursday, followed by the grand finale next week.
