Russia Pounds Ukrainian Cities in Overnight Missile Assault

Russian forces launched another wave of overnight missile strikes across Ukraine, hitting several regions and triggering explosions in major cities, Ukrainian authorities said on Saturday.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the attacks targeted multiple areas, including Chernihiv, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, and Zhytomyr, as air defence systems were activated to repel the incoming missiles.

Explosions were also reported in the capital, Kyiv, where Mayor Vitali Klitschko said several blasts were heard across the city.

In a message posted on Telegram, he confirmed that air defence units were engaged during the attack.

Ukrainian media reports said Russia deployed a mix of weapons, including hypersonic Kinzhal missiles, with energy infrastructure believed to be among the targets.

However, officials said the full scale of the damage and any casualties had yet to be established.

Ukraine has continued to face repeated missile and drone attacks since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022, with strikes frequently aimed at critical infrastructure and civilian areas.
