Several people have died after gunmen launched a deadly attack on a community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, sparking panic among residents on Sunday evening.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening in Anguwan Rukuba, where eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire indiscriminately.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the scene as chaotic.
He said, “The attackers just rode past and started shooting sporadically.
"People were running in different directions.”
Authorities have yet to confirm the exact number of casualties, but multiple reports indicate that several youths were killed in the attack.
Some unofficial accounts suggest the death toll could be higher, though this has not been independently verified.
The attack has heightened tension in the area, with disturbing images and videos circulating online showing the aftermath, including lifeless bodies and distressed residents.
Plateau State has witnessed recurring violence in recent years, often linked to armed groups, communal clashes, and criminal gangs.
Security agencies have repeatedly pledged to curb the attacks, but residents say incidents continue to occur with alarming frequency.
As of the time of filing this report, security operatives were yet to release an official statement on the latest attack or confirm arrests.
The incident adds to growing concerns over insecurity in Nigeria’s north-central region, with calls mounting for stronger protection of vulnerable communities.
