Tinubu Pledges More Troops, Economic Support for Zamfara After Meeting With Gov. Lawal

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has promised to deploy additional troops and equipment to Zamfara State and explore federal programmes to boost its economy, following a closed-door meeting with Governor Dauda Lawal at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.

The meeting, which took place immediately after President Tinubu hosted All Progressives Congress governors, covered security, economic development, and the political outlook ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Governor Lawal briefed the President on progress made in tackling the state's long-running security crisis, while also flagging areas where further intervention is needed.

In response, Tinubu stressed his administration's readiness to provide full federal backing, including reinforcing troop presence and supplying operational equipment to security agencies working in the state.

On the economy, the governor highlighted a rise in Zamfara's Internally Generated Revenue and pressed for greater federal support to develop local industries and create jobs.

The President indicated his administration would look into available federal resources and programmes that could be channelled toward that goal.

Zamfara has for years been one of Nigeria's most volatile states, grappling with persistent banditry and armed attacks that have displaced communities and disrupted economic activity.

Governor Lawal's spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, confirmed the meeting in a statement issued on Thursday.
