Twitter Finally Pulls Plug on Legacy ‘verified’ Blue Ticks

In a move to reform its verification process, Twitter has started removing the original blue check marks from users.

The blue check mark was designed as an icon to verify one's identity on the platform.

On Thursday, the verification badge was removed from the accounts of many journalists, government agencies, and celebrities.

Twitter owner, Elon Musk had previously criticized the legacy verification process, calling it a  "corrupt," and a "lords & peasants system."

On April 11, the billionaire and founder of SpaceX announced that he would be stripping away the legacy check marks on April 20.

Users can only get the check mark if they pay an $8 monthly fee for the Twitter Blue premium service.
