Wike-Backed PDP Faction Dissolves 14 State Party Executives

A faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) believed to be backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dissolved State Working Committees in 14 states.

The decision was announced in a communiqué issued after a meeting of the PDP National Working Caretaker Committee faction held on Thursday in Abuja.

The communiqué was read by the faction’s Acting Publicity Secretary, Haruna Jungun.

Jungun said the affected states are Borno, Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Ekiti, Bayelsa, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Delta, Taraba, Kano, and Lagos.

According to him, the committee also assigned portfolios to its members as part of efforts to strengthen the administration and coordination of party activities nationwide.

“The National Caretaker Committee further ratified the dissolution of some state executives while confirming caretaker committees in those states,” Jungun said.

He announced several appointments, including Prof. Adenike Ogunse as National Women Leader, Deji Doherty as Deputy National Secretary, and Sen. Olaka Ogunwu as National Treasurer.

Others named were Jungun Mohammed as National Publicity Secretary and Dr Ibrahim Bala-Aboki as National Youth Leader.

Jungun said the committee approved a timetable for state congresses beginning January 9, 2026, to be followed by a national convention.

He also dismissed claims that a rival faction led by Taminu Turaki had been recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), insisting that the PDP has only one legitimate leadership.

Earlier, the faction's Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahmah Mohammed, said the meeting was convened to keep the party on a lawful and stable path.
