Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has flagged off three road projects covering four local government areas, aimed at improving connectivity, reducing transportation costs and boosting economic activities.
The projects, launched on Tuesday, November 3, include the Tashar Abu-Kekun Waje-Bingi Road, Kwatarkwashi-Mada Road and the 53-kilometre Gusau-Jauri-Dogon Kade-Nasarawa Mailayi-Nasarawa Godel Road.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the Tashar Abu-Kekun Waje-Bingi Road will undergo reconstruction, with drainage and erosion control works, within an 18-month completion period.
The Kwatarkwashi-Mada Road project has been awarded to Zhongcheng Construction Nigeria Limited for completion within 12 months, while CCECC Nigeria Limited will handle the 53-kilometre Gusau-Nasarawa Godel Road, with an 18-month delivery timeline.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Lawal described the projects as key milestones in his administration’s Rescue Mission, saying good road infrastructure was essential to economic growth, security and social development.
He said the 53-kilometre road would cover Gusau, Bungudu, Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji local government areas, with 5, 12, nine and 27 kilometres allocated to each area, respectively.
The governor added that the project would feature culverts, reinforced concrete drains, erosion protection works and three bridges to ensure safe and reliable transportation.
Lawal said the roads would connect rural communities to their local government headquarters and Gusau, improving access to markets and essential services while helping farmers transport their produce more easily.
