At least 10 people have died and six others were injured in a road crash involving a truck and a commercial bus at Sapade Bridge along the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway in Ogun State.
The crash occurred around 8:05 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The accident involved a Dangote Sinotruk truck and a Toyota Hiace bus carrying 18 occupants.
FRSC Public Education Officer, Superintendent Route Commander Afolabi Odunsi, said 10 victims, including nine adult males and one male child, died in the crash, while six others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The FRSC said preliminary investigations showed that the truck driver allegedly reversed on the highway after missing his route, creating an obstruction.
According to the agency, the approaching bus, which was reportedly travelling at high speed, attempted to pass through the limited space but rammed into the truck.
Rescue teams evacuated the injured victims to Victory Hospital, Ogere, for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to FOS Mortuary, Ipara.
The damaged vehicles have been handed over to the police.
Reacting to the incident, Ogun Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists, especially commercial drivers and truck operators, to avoid reversing on highways, speeding and other dangerous driving practices.
He stressed that obeying traffic regulations and using designated turning points after missing a route are essential to preventing avoidable road crashes and saving lives.
