2023 Elections: The US Stands with the Nigerian People -Biden

US President Joe Biden has called on Nigerians to exercise their civic right to vote in Saturday's presidential election.

In a statement released by the US Embassy on Thursday, the US president commended political parties and their presidential candidates for signing a peace accord ahead of the election.

Biden emphasized that by signing the pledge, the parties and candidates have committed to accepting the results of the election, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and supporting a peaceful transition of power.

He urged political parties and candidates to "live up to their pledge to support a peaceful transition of power."

He added that "elections are a fundamental part of a functioning democracy and that all Nigerians deserve the chance to choose their future freely and fairly."

The US president encouraged all Nigerians to exercise their fundamental freedom to vote on election day, including young voters who may be casting their ballot for the first time.

"The United States stands with the Nigerian people as they chart a path toward a more democratic, prosperous, and secure future," he said.
