32 Governors, 8,453 Delegates Gather in Abuja for APC Convention

No fewer than 32 state governors, over 8,400 delegates, and top government officials have arrived in Abuja for the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scheduled to hold at Eagle Square.

President Bola Tinubu, members of the Federal Executive Council, and party leaders from across the country are expected to participate in the convention, where new party executives will emerge, and key decisions affecting the party’s future will be taken.

The Co-Chairman of the Media Sub-Committee for the convention and Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed during a media briefing in Abuja that about 8,453 delegates from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory would attend the convention.

He said the theme of the convention, “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” reflects the party’s direction and its commitment to strengthening its leadership structure and policy agenda.

According to him, the convention will provide a platform for leadership elections, policy discussions, and consolidation of the party’s programmes ahead of future political activities, including preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the APC National Convention Central Coordinating Committee, Aminu Masari, said the party had completed all arrangements for a smooth and credible convention.

Masari also stated that the party had not been served any court process regarding disputes over zoning arrangements for party offices, noting that all positions were zoned in line with federal character principles.

Ahead of the convention, some party members had raised concerns about alleged exclusion from contests for certain party offices.

However, one of the aggrieved members, Fubara Dagogo, said he would seek redress through the party’s internal mechanisms rather than stop the convention.

As part of security and traffic management measures, the Federal Government directed civil servants working at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja to work from home during the convention, as roads around Eagle Square will be closed.

Hotels and guest houses across Abuja have also recorded high patronage as delegates and party supporters arrived in the city ahead of the convention.

The APC National Convention is expected to shape the party’s leadership structure and political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
