The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says 65 of the 69 ambassadors-designate appointed by President Bola Tinubu have received the approval of their host countries, representing 97 percent of all appointments.
In a statement on Saturday, the ministry said the diplomatic process of obtaining agrément from receiving countries was progressing smoothly in line with established international practice.
It explained that one ambassador-designate assigned to the Republic of Togo declined the appointment, resulting in no request for agrément being submitted, while the ambassador-designate to Algeria died in April 2026 and is yet to be replaced.
The ministry said only two countries are yet to confirm acceptance of Nigeria's ambassadors-designate, adding that both countries have assured Nigeria that their consent will be granted in due course.
It also noted that most of the ambassadors have already arrived in their host countries and presented their Letters of Credence, officially commencing their duties.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria's diplomatic representation abroad in line with the country's foreign policy objectives and national interest.
