Aba Power Leads Initiative to Assemble Smart Meters, Targets 20,000 Monthly

Aba Power, the nation's newest electricity distribution company, is spearheading a groundbreaking initiative to assemble smart electricity meters in collaboration with four local and international firms.

The announcement was made by Mrs. Agatha Nnaji, the Group Managing Director of Geometric Power, during a visit by the Abia State House of Assembly Committee on Power and Public Utilities to the company's headquarters in the Osisioma Industrial Layout. Mrs. Nnaji shared that the project is expected to create up to 35,000 jobs as the meters will be produced locally.

The firms involved include Kayz Consortium, Eve Metering Company, Chint Metering, and DCESN Metering from China. Kayz will commence production this month, followed by Eve. While Chint, DCESN, and Kayz are set to assemble 20,000 meters each, Eve aims to deliver 100,000 meters.

Engineer Alfred Atenega, heading the metering team at Aba Power, stated the goal of delivering 20,000 prepaid meters monthly to ensure all customers have a smart meter within a year. The Abia State Assembly's Power and Public Utilities Committee expressed satisfaction with Geometric Power's innovative approach and urged the company to extend electricity to remote communities.
