Abuja Airport Enforces Health Declaration Forms Amid Ebola Alert

The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, has stepped up health surveillance and sensitisation, including the enforcement of health declaration forms for eligible arriving passengers.

The measures follow Nigeria’s heightened alert over the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with Kenya also reporting an imported case linked to the outbreak.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria says the measures are aimed at strengthening early detection, contact tracing and preventing the possible importation of the virus into Nigeria.

Airport spokesperson, Bishop Kunle, says passengers and relevant personnel are being sensitised, while the airport is prepared to support screening, monitoring and contact tracing where necessary.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention says travellers arriving from countries with active or relevant Ebola transmission are required to complete the Health Declaration Form and provide relevant travel and exposure information.

The agency says it is reviewing the risk to Nigeria and strengthening preparedness measures in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and other partners.
