Adamawa Governor Fintiri Joins APC

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He announced the defection in a statewide broadcast on Friday, saying the move was motivated by the “developmental interest of the people of Adamawa State.”

The defection follows the recent resignation of at least fifteen members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, including the Speaker and his deputy, from the PDP.

Fintiri, who was re-elected in 2023 after first assuming office in 2019, thanked the people of the state for their unwavering support, stating that his administration remains mindful of the responsibility attached to the mandate entrusted to it by the electorate.

The switch by a sitting governor and his key officials is expected to reshape party dynamics in Adamawa and could have wider implications for the North-East region.

With Governor Ahmadu Fintiri's recent move, the ruling party now controls 30 out of Nigeria's 36 states through sitting governors.
