ADC South-South Leaders Back Amaechi for President

Leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the South-South geopolitical zone have publicly declared support for Rotimi Amaechi in his bid to secure the party’s presidential nomination ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was announced by Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, former governor of Edo State and a prominent ADC leader, during a consultative meeting of party stakeholders in Benin City, Edo State’s capital.

At the meeting, Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation, formally presented his intention to contest for the presidency under the ADC platform.

“We are glad that our son, Rotimi Amaechi, took advantage of this meeting to brief us formally of his intention to run for the presidency of our great nation,” Odigie-Oyegun said.

He added that the South-South leadership had taken a unanimous decision to give him their full support as he pursues his ambition.

Amaechi has previously indicated he is willing to serve a single term if elected and has encouraged the party to consider a southern candidate, arguing that it would respect Nigeria’s current power-rotation expectations.

The South-South region – comprising Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo and Rivers states – is seen as a key political bloc in national contests.

The ADC’s show of unity behind Amaechi could shape internal party dynamics as candidates gear up for the 2027 elections.
