Adeleke Orders Further Measures as Flooding Affects Parts of Osun

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has expressed concern over recent flooding in parts of the state, promising further measures to protect lives, property and communities.

Adeleke, in a statement, said he sympathised with residents and families affected by the flooding and acknowledged its impact on homes, businesses and livelihoods.

The governor said he had directed the Special Task Force on Environmental Sanitation, led by Elder Ayanleye Aina, to visit some of the affected areas and assess the situation.

According to Adeleke, the assessment is expected to guide the administration in preparing a response plan to address the flooding.

He said his administration had already carried out initial dredging and drainage interventions aimed at improving water flow and reducing the risk of flooding.

Adeleke said further measures would be taken where necessary to protect affected communities.

The governor also urged residents to support government efforts by keeping their surroundings clean and avoiding the dumping of refuse in waterways and roadside drains.

He advised residents to desist from building on natural water channels and flood-prone corridors, warning that such activities could worsen the impact of flooding.

Adeleke also encouraged residents to report flooding incidents, blocked drainage channels and other environmental hazards to the relevant authorities.

He said cooperation between the government and residents would be important in reducing the impact of flooding across Osun State.
