Osun state Governor, Ademola Adeleke has won the 2026 governorship election in the state, defeating his closest challenger, All Progressives Congress candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, polled 511,067 votes.
Oyebamiji of the APC came second with 444,815 votes, while African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes.
The results were announced by the Returning Officer and Collation Officer, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole.
The election was held on Saturday across the 30 local government areas of Osun State, with 15 candidates contesting the governorship seat.
About 2.3 million voters were registered for the election.
Adeleke’s victory gives him another term as governor after a closely fought campaign that saw the major political parties intensify their efforts to win voters across the state.
The election was also held amid heightened political and security tensions in the days leading up to the poll.
The Independent National Electoral Commission conducted the election across the state’s 30 local government areas.
The official declaration by Professor Ogunwole confirmed Adeleke as the winner of the August 15 governorship election.
