AFCON 2027 Qualifiers: Super Eagles Draw Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau, Tanzania

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been drawn in Group L alongside Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau and Tanzania for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The draw was held on Tuesday in Cairo, Egypt, setting up another challenging qualification campaign for the three-time African champions ahead of the AFCON 2027 qualifiers.

Tanzania, one of the co-hosts of the 2027 tournament alongside Kenya and Uganda, will automatically qualify from the group regardless of their final position. As a result, only one other team from Group L will join them at the finals.

Nigeria’s group features familiar opponents. The Super Eagles faced Guinea-Bissau in recent AFCON qualifying and tournament encounters in 2021 and 2023, while Tanzania met Nigeria in the 2025 AFCON group stage, a match the Eagles won 2–1.

Madagascar also defeated Nigeria 2–0 during the 2019 AFCON group phase.

Across the qualifying series, 11 other groups were drawn, with the top two teams from each group expected to qualify for the expanded 24-team tournament scheduled for June 19 to July 17, 2027.

The qualification matches will begin between September and October 2026, with subsequent rounds scheduled for November 2026 and March 2027.

Nigeria, who finished third at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, remain one of Africa’s most successful sides with three continental titles.
