The Federal Government has warned parents, schools and students that there will be consequences for anyone involved in examination malpractice.
Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, gave the warning in Abuja while meeting with private school proprietors and other education stakeholders.
Alausa said the government wants to end a system where students who cheat gain an advantage over those who genuinely prepare for examinations.
He said malpractice is no longer just a problem for individual students, but also threatens the credibility of Nigerian certificates.
The minister said parents, teachers, school owners, principals and invigilators must also take responsibility because adults often enable or encourage examination malpractice.
He said the government is introducing tighter measures to ensure that examination results truly reflect what students know and can do.
One of the measures is question randomisation and serialisation, where candidates receive the same questions in different sequences to make collusion and leakage more difficult.
Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Said Ahmad, also warned private schools to properly prepare their students for external examinations.
She said some students who perform very well in internal examinations later struggle in external exams because they have become used to accessing leaked questions.
Ahmad urged schools to complete their curriculum on time and encourage students to develop regular study habits rather than rely on examination shortcuts.
The government is also expanding the use of computer based examinations as part of efforts to strengthen examination security and reduce malpractice.
Alausa said the fight against examination fraud must involve everyone, stressing that the government wants Nigerian certificates to regain stronger credibility both at home and internationally.
