Anthony Joshua Crash Likely Caused by Speeding – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Ogun State Police Command have confirmed the ghastly accident, that occurred around 11 a.m. in the Makun area, near the Sagamu Interchange.

According to FRSC Ogun State Sector Command spokesperson Afolabi Odunsi, the crash involved a Lexus SUV with registration number KRD 850 HN, which was carrying the former world heavyweight champion.

The vehicle reportedly collided with a stationary truck.

Preliminary investigations by the FRSC attributed the crash to excessive speeding and wrongful overtaking from the right-hand side.

“The vehicle conveying Anthony Joshua rammed into a stationary vehicle while attempting to overtake,” Odunsi said in a statement.

“In an accident involving five individuals, Anthony Joshua sustained minor injuries, while two fatalities were recorded.”

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that Joshua was seated in the rear of the Lexus, which was part of a two-vehicle convoy including a security detail in a following Pajero SUV.

While the boxer was conscious and stable following the crash, two other passengers in the Lexus died on the spot.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, confirmed that Joshua was taken to a hospital by his security team for medical attention.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Livewell Hospital morgue in Sagamu.

The accident comes just days after Joshua’s high-profile sixth-round knockout victory over Jake Paul in Miami.

Joshua who hails from the Sagamu Local Government Area, had recently returned to Nigeria for the holiday season.
