APC Defends Electoral Act Amendment and FCT Area Council Polls

The All Progressives Congress has defended the 2026 amendment to the Electoral Act and its performance in the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE TV, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the APC respects the legislative process that produced the amended law.

Morka explained that the National Assembly acted pragmatically, taking into account the current state of communication technology across the country.

He noted that while full electronic transmission of results remains a goal, infrastructure challenges must first be addressed.

On the FCT Area Council elections, Morka said Nigerians who were eligible to vote went to the polls and cast their ballots, with results announced by INEC.

He maintained that the APC won five out of the six councils and rejected claims that the victories were achieved through unfair means.

Reacting to questions about the role of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Morka said the minister, like every Nigerian, has the constitutional right to support any candidate of his choice.

He added that there was no formal coordination between the APC and Wike during the local council elections.

On the economy, Morka dismissed suggestions that oversight queries by the Senate and National Assembly point to economic failure.

He insisted that the economy is improving, citing better export figures and ongoing government programmes aimed at supporting citizens.
