The All Progressives Congress (APC) has revised its timetable for the 2027 general elections, moving its presidential primary from May 15 to May 23.
The adjustment was announced on Thursday in Abuja by the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko, following the 186th meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC).
According to Meseko, the revised schedule aligns with provisions of the amended constitution, the 2026 Electoral Act, and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He confirmed that the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms will run from April 25 to May 2, while the submission deadline has been fixed for May 4.
Screening of aspirants across all elective positions is scheduled to hold between May 6 and May 9, with presidential screening slated for May 9.
Results of the screenings are expected to be released on May 11, after which the party will commence a staggered sequence of primaries covering legislative, governorship, and presidential elections.
Meseko dismissed claims that nomination forms were restricted, stressing that the process remains open to all qualified aspirants within the party.
On the mode of primaries, he explained that the APC would adopt both direct and consensus options, as provided by the Electoral Act.
He noted that consensus arrangements must be agreed upon by all aspirants and key stakeholders.
“Where consensus fails or is rejected by any aspirant, the party automatically reverts to direct primary elections,” he said.
He added that state chapters have been given the flexibility to determine the most suitable mode of primary elections in their respective states.
In Zamfara State, internal party congresses are set to begin from April 28, with ward congresses scheduled for April 30. State congresses and appeal processes are expected to conclude by May 3.
Meseko also disclosed that the party has transmitted its updated national membership register, including new members, to INEC in compliance with electoral regulations.
He assured party members that the APC is fully prepared for its primaries, having completed all necessary administrative and regulatory procedures ahead of the 2027 elections.
