APC North-East Summit Ends in Chaos as Delegates Disrupt Endorsement of Tinubu Without Shettima

The All Progressives Congress (APC) North-East summit descended into chaos as delegates expressed their outrage over the exclusion of Vice President Kashim Shettima from endorsements for the 2027 elections.

The turmoil began when Abdullahi Ganduje, the APC national chairman, publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term without mentioning Shettima, prompting immediate backlash from party delegates. Many felt that Shettima’s absence from the endorsement was a slight against his contributions and role within the party.

A video clip from AIT showed angry delegates at the summit in Gombe State attacking regional party leaders. An aggrieved delegate could be seen raising a chair and hitting another person.

As tensions escalated, delegates began to disrupt the proceedings, chanting for Shettima and calling for a more inclusive approach to endorsements. The unrest highlighted existing divisions within the party, raising questions about unity and strategy as the APC heads toward the next election cycle.

In response to the uproar, Ganduje attempted to calm the crowd, emphasizing the importance of party loyalty and collective goals. However, the discontent among delegates underscored a growing rift within the APC, suggesting that Shettima's exclusion could have significant implications for the party's cohesion and electoral prospects in 2027.
