The Nigerian Army has commissioned a solar-powered, fully furnished 30-seater computer laboratory with high-speed internet access at Agunbiade Victory High School in Magbon, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The facility was delivered under the Chief of Army Staff’s Special Intervention Civil-Military Cooperation Project and was commissioned on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, by the General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola.
Shaibu said the project would improve access to digital learning resources and provide a conducive environment for teaching, research and innovation.
He urged the school and the Magbon community to protect and maintain the facility for future generations.
The project was initiated in honour of Major General Ismail Dapo Oloyede, an alumnus of the school.
Oloyede said the intervention was his way of giving back to the institution that contributed to his development.
The Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General Mohammed IndagI, said the intervention programme was designed to honour senior military officers and support communities that produced them.
He said previous projects under the scheme had included healthcare, water supply, schools, roads and bridges.
Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, welcomed the initiative, saying the provision of computers, solar power and internet access would help ensure the school keeps pace with digital education.
