Atiku Abubakar Formally Joins ADC in Bold Political Realignment

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will formally cement his political move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday, 24 November 2025, in a high-profile membership card collection ceremony marking a major realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The announcement states that the veteran politician and multiple-time presidential candidate for several of Nigeria’s leading parties will resign from the PDP and officially declare for the ADC, the party adopted by the coalition opposing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC-led government.

Atiku, a two-time Vice President, will receive his registration card in Yola, Adamawa, to mark his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday.

Atiku, along with other key opposition figures like former Senate President David Mark and former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, is spearheading the ADC’s mission to unify fragmented opposition forces.

“In Nigeria as a whole, there is a new political movement. Is it not so? Today, the new movement has brought us here—to the ADC. So, the people of Adamawa and Nigeria, our new party is ADC, and our new leaders in Adamawa are here,” he said.

“On Monday, I will officially join the ADC. Before now, I was not in; you were here before me. Will you accept me?” he asked, to which the crowd responded with a resounding “Yes.”

He added, “May God allow us to witness Monday.”

This move puts to rest speculation about his commitment to the party and coalition, while raising questions about Peter Obi’s commitment, widely seen as a key opposition figure.
