Former military ruler Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida told the new national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party to use care and tact as he leads the party back to unity and strength.
Babangida spoke when Kabiru Tanimu Turaki and members of the PDP National Working Committee visited him at his Minna home.
The ex-president said the party must put unity first and rebuild trust among members so it can be ready for future elections.
Turaki, who was chosen party chairman at the PDP national convention in Ibadan in mid-November, led the delegation.
Party posts and Turaki’s own social media account said they briefed Babangida about plans to restore discipline, return the party to its grassroots and work for national renewal.
Sources at the meeting said Babangida urged the leadership to be patient, avoid fights that split the party, and work hard to win back voters.
The visit included senior PDP officials and state leaders who told the former president they would follow a plan to steady the party.
Turaki has promised to end impunity, enforce discipline and reconnect the PDP with ordinary Nigerians — steps Babangida appeared to support in his advice.
