Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has dismissed reports claiming he is considering leaving the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to become the running mate of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2027 general elections.
The governor's reaction follows speculation on social media that he was being lined up as Jonathan’s vice-presidential candidate under a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The rumours gained momentum after a PDP faction led by Kabiru Turaki announced Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election during a special national convention held in Abuja on Saturday.
Jonathan, who was absent from the convention, had his certificate of return received on his behalf by Fred Agbedi.
Responding to a post on X by ADC chieftain Nuhu Sada, Mohammed described reports linking him to a vice-presidential slot as false and speculative.
According to the governor, his political ambition remains focused on representing Bauchi South Senatorial District in 2027 on the platform of the APM.
“Thank you for your interest in my political aspirations. However, for the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM),” he said.
Mohammed urged the public to disregard reports suggesting any change in his political plans.
“Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate,” he added.
The clarification comes amid growing political realignments and speculation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
