Bandits Invade Kwara Church, Abduct Worshippers

Bandits on Sunday invaded an ECWA Church in Omugo community of Kwara State, abducting several worshippers during a church service.

Security operatives, however, rescued three of the victims following a joint operation involving the police, soldiers, forest guards, and local vigilantes.

The attack reportedly occurred during the weekly church service, causing panic among worshippers and residents of the community.

Confirming the incident, the Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, said security operatives successfully rescued three victims while efforts were ongoing to secure the release of the remaining abductees.

The commissioner condemned the attack on a place of worship, describing it as cowardly and unacceptable.

She also urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies, adding that ongoing forest combing operations had already yielded positive results in curbing criminal activities in affected areas.

The attack comes amid heightened security concerns in Kwara South following intelligence reports warning of possible coordinated attacks in Ifelodun, Irepodun, and Isin local government areas.
