Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has condemned the killing of the state chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, Alhaji Ardo Risku, and his friend.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia described the incident as shocking and a setback to ongoing efforts to maintain peace and reconciliation across the state.
The governor said the killing of a community leader and peace advocate threatens the stability being rebuilt in parts of Benue and could undermine dialogue among different stakeholders.
He directed security agencies in the state to immediately begin a thorough investigation, identify those behind the attack and ensure they are brought to justice.
Governor Alia urged members of MACBAN and residents of the state to remain calm and law-abiding as authorities work to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing.
He also expressed condolences to the family of Alhaji Ardo Risku and the entire MACBAN community, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
