Clearlake Capital has assumed full control of Chelsea after acquiring the ownership stakes held by club chairman Todd Boehly and director Mark Walter.
Boehly and Walter were among the investors who partnered with Clearlake to buy the Premier League club from Roman Abramovich for £2.5 billion in May 2022.
Before the latest deal, Clearlake held 62 percent of Chelsea, while Boehly, Walter and fellow investor Hansjorg Wyss owned the remaining shares. Wyss will remain an important stakeholder in the club.
The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed, although the Financial Times reports that Boehly and Walter are expected to receive about £950 million in cash.
Boehly says it was an honour to serve as Chelsea chairman and expressed confidence in the club’s future under Clearlake’s leadership.
Clearlake says there will be no changes to Chelsea’s day-to-day operations, leadership or overall strategy.
