British Police Charges Ex-Minister, Diezani with Bribery

Former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke has been charged by the British Police with offences related to bribery.

Head of the National Crime Agency’s (NCA) International Corruption Unit, Andy Kelly while commenting on the charge said,“We suspect Diezani Alison-Madueke abused her power in Nigeria and accepted financial rewards for awarding multi-million-pound contracts."

According to Kelly, the accusations against Diezani include: benefitting from at least £100,000 in cash, chauffeur-driven cars, flights on private jets, luxury holidays for her family, and the use of multiple London properties.

“These charges are a milestone in what has been a thorough and complex international investigation”, added Kelly.

Recall that Diezani, 63, served as minister between 2010 and 2015 during the administration of ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan.

She was the president of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
