CAF General Secretary Mosengo-Omba Steps Down

The General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football, Veron Mosengo-Omba, has stepped down after five years in office, citing a desire to retire with “peace of mind.”

Mosengo-Omba says his decision follows efforts to clear his name of allegations that trailed his tenure, adding that he is leaving the organisation stronger.

His exit comes amid fallout from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, which saw Morocco awarded a 3–0 victory over Senegal after a controversial ruling, now being challenged at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The development also follows the postponement of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco to later in the year.

CAF says competitions director Samson Adamu will serve as interim general secretary pending the appointment of a substantive replacement.

Meanwhile, CAF President Patrice Motsepe says the Africa Cup of Nations will expand from 24 to 28 teams and will move to a four-year cycle after the 2027 edition.
