CAF Names Samson Adamu Acting Secretary-General

Nigeria’s Samson Adamu has been appointed Acting Secretary-General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), becoming the first Nigerian to hold the position since the organisation was founded more than 70 years ago.

According to a statement issued by Ademola Olajire, the director of communications at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Adamu replaces Veron Mosengo-Omba of the Democratic Republic of Congo, who stepped down to contest the presidential election of his country’s football federation, FECOFA.

Before his appointment, Adamu served as CAF’s Director of Tournaments and Events, where he played a key role in organising major continental competitions across Africa.

His nomination was proposed by the CAF Executive Committee and ratified by the congress at its meeting held on Sunday, March 29, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt.

The appointment marks a significant milestone for Nigerian football administration and strengthens the country’s presence in continental football governance.
