CAF Opens Bidding Process for 2028, 2032 and 2036 AFCON Hosting Rights

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially opened the bidding process for the hosting rights of the 2028, 2032 and 2036 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In a statement published on its official website, CAF invited all 54 member associations to submit bids to host any of the three tournaments as part of a long-term strategy to strengthen the organisation and global profile of Africa's flagship football competition.

CAF said the selection process will assess each bid based on infrastructure, commercial viability, operational capacity, and compliance with technical and safety requirements.

According to the continental football governing body, the bidding framework was developed with the support of independent advisory firm PwC, alongside technical, financial and external legal experts, to ensure a transparent, competitive and fair selection process.

The announcement comes ahead of the 2027 AFCON, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027. The tournament will mark the first time the competition is staged across three East African countries.

CAF said recent editions of the AFCON have recorded significant growth in global viewership and digital engagement, with the tournament attracting more than 3.2 billion cumulative television viewers and over six billion digital interactions.

The successful bidders for the 2028, 2032 and 2036 tournaments will have the opportunity to showcase their sporting infrastructure, tourism potential and organisational capabilities while hosting Africa's top national teams and millions of football fans from across the continent and beyond.
