CAF Probes Misconduct in AFCON 2025 Quarter-Finals Matches Involving Cameroon, Morocco, Algeria and Nigeria

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched an investigation into alleged misconduct during the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 quarter-finals. The probe focuses on matches between Cameroon and Morocco, and Algeria and Nigeria.

CAF said confrontations with referees and post-match disruptions triggered the investigation. Reports and video footage of unacceptable behavior have been sent to the Disciplinary Board for review.

“CAF has referred the matters to the Disciplinary Board for investigation and has called for appropriate action if the identified persons are found guilty,” the statement read. The governing body is also reviewing footage of alleged media misconduct in the mixed zone.

In Marrakech, Nigeria defeated Algeria 2-0 with goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams, advancing to the semifinals. The match ended in chaos as Algerian players confronted referees, sparking scuffles and a thwarted pitch invasion by fans.

The Algerian Football Federation has lodged a formal complaint with CAF over controversial calls by referee Issa Sy, including a denied penalty for an alleged handball in Nigeria’s box during the first half.
