22-year-old Nigerian international, Calvin Bassey has officially signed for Dutch champions, Ajax on a five year deal from Scottish side Rangers.
The deal is said to be a club record fee of £19.6m for the centre-back and left-back who has attracted lots of admirers from Europe after his sterling season last campaign with the Europa League runners-up. He has now signed as a replacement for departing Lisandro Martinez who is joining English Premier league side, Manchester United.
It has been a fascinating two years rise for Bassey who joined Rangers after failing to cut it in the Leicester City reserves and now his biggest career move yet could further rise to £23m with add-ons of around £3m.
Bassey also recently broke into the Super Eagles of Nigeria fold where he plays mainly as a left back and joins Nigeria legends like Kanu Nwankwo, Finidi George and Sunday Oliseh who have all played for Ajax. He will now feature in his debut UEFA Champions league in the coming season with Ajax.
