The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed that effective logistics training and sustainment capabilities are essential to the success of military operations and the protection of national security.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of participants of the Logistics Staff Officers Course and the Junior Leadership Logistics Staff Officers Course at the Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management (NACOLM) in Lagos, the Army Chief said no military operation can succeed without well-trained logistics personnel capable of providing timely and sustainable support to troops.
He noted that the changing nature of security threats demands logistics officers who are professionally trained, innovative and adaptable to support operations in joint and multi-agency environments.
According to the COAS, logistics is a strategic component of military operations that must be integrated into planning from the outset.
He said effective logistics enhances combat readiness, troop mobility, equipment maintenance, medical support and efficient resource management.
Lieutenant General Shaibu said the Nigerian Army's ongoing operations against terrorism, insurgency, kidnapping and banditry continue to highlight the importance of sound logistics planning in sustaining operational momentum and achieving mission objectives.
He urged the graduating officers to apply the knowledge and leadership skills acquired during the courses to strengthen logistics planning and operational support in their various units, stressing that an army's combat effectiveness depends on the quality of its logistics system.
The Army Chief also charged the officers to uphold professionalism, innovation and accountability in managing military resources, noting that efficient logistics improves troop welfare, morale and overall combat capability.
He commended the management and instructors of the Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management for maintaining high training standards, while reaffirming Army Headquarters' commitment to investing in professional military education, infrastructure, technology and logistics capabilities.
Earlier, the Commandant of the College, Major General Adewale Adetoba, said the institution had reviewed its curriculum to align with the realities of modern warfare and joint operations.
He expressed confidence that the graduating officers are equipped with the knowledge and practical skills needed to strengthen logistics support and enhance the Nigerian Army's operational effectiveness.
