Cleric Alleges ‘Genocide’ in Plateau, Seeks Urgent Action

Plateau-based cleric Isa El-Buba has alleged an ongoing “genocide” in Plateau State following fresh attacks that killed more than 20 people on Sunday.

Speaking in Lagos at a cross-campaign gathering of senior clergy, El-Buba warned that insecurity is spreading across northern Nigeria, affecting multiple states and displacing communities.

“Nigeria is at a dangerous crossroads. Our nation is bleeding,” he said.

“This is not herders-farmers clashes. This is a deliberate act of terrorism.”

He claimed attackers had issued threats ahead of the Sallah period and carried them out.

“They said Christians on the Plateau should prepare for a massive genocide, and they executed it,” he said.

El-Buba alleged that violence has spread from Borno through Taraba, Plateau and Benue to Kwara, with entire communities overrun.

He said he had attended mass burials where “hundreds were killed in one night,” describing the attacks as systematic.

The cleric also criticized security agencies, alleging inaction despite intelligence on attackers.

“They know where the terrorists are, but there is no decisive action,” he said.

He called on the federal government to declare a state of emergency on security and establish state police.

“If there is political will, state police can be implemented immediately,” he said.

El-Buba urged authorities to investigate alleged collaborators and sponsors of violence.

“Enough is enough of this bloodshed. The government must confront this crisis head-on,” he said.

Meanwhile, former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Ayo Oritsejafor, called on politicians to uphold democratic values and prioritize citizens’ welfare.
