The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Nigerian Army, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has arrived in Liberia to participate in the country’s 69th Armed Forces Day celebration, scheduled for Tuesday, February 11, 2026.
Lieutenant General Shaibu is in Monrovia at the invitation of the Armed Forces of Liberia and is expected to deliver a keynote address during the ceremony, which commemorates Liberia’s military heritage and the role of its armed forces in national stability and development.
On arrival, the COAS was received by Liberia’s Chief of Staff, Armed Forces of Liberia, Major General Davidson Forley, and accorded full military honours, including a Guard of Honour, reflecting the strong professional ties between both militaries.
As part of his visit, Lieutenant General Shaibu also paid a courtesy call on the Nigerian Embassy in Liberia, where he was welcomed by the Chargé d’Affaires, Ambassador Rahmat Muhammad.
He commended embassy officials for their efforts in strengthening Nigeria–Liberia relations and protecting Nigerian interests in the country.
The visit underscores Nigeria’s commitment to defence diplomacy, regional security cooperation and stronger bilateral military relations within West Africa.
Lieutenant General Shaibu previously served as Military Assistant to a former Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia and was awarded the country’s Distinguished Service Order for his contributions to Liberia’s defence sector.
