COAS, IGP Push Stronger Security Coordination to Tackle Threats

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, and Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun have called for a unified, coordinated approach among security agencies to tackle Nigeria’s growing security challenges.

Speaking during the IGP’s visit to Army Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, the army chief said joint operations remain critical to national security.

“A unified and well-coordinated inter-agency framework remains indispensable to achieving lasting peace,” he said.

The IGP stressed the need for stronger collaboration and intelligence sharing between the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force.

He described their partnership as vital to addressing internal security threats, including banditry and kidnapping.

“Strengthened synergy will enhance our operational effectiveness across the country,” the police chief said, while commending the army for supporting the training of Police Mobile Force personnel.

He also pledged continued intelligence sharing and coordination in ongoing and future operations.

In response, the COAS congratulated the IGP on his appointment and reaffirmed the army’s commitment to deepening joint operations.

He noted that both leaders share a history of working together in international missions, strengthening their collaboration.

The army also acknowledged police support in operations across Kogi, Kwara and Niger states, where joint efforts against criminal groups have recorded progress.

Both leaders agreed that sustained cooperation among security agencies is key to improving safety and stability nationwide.
