Court Orders CCT Chairman to Face Senate Probe

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar to appear before the Senate over an assault on a private security guard in Abuja.

The Senate had summoned Umar to appear before it, but the CCT boss sought legal means to stop his investigation by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.

While delivering judgement on Tuesday, Justice Inyang Ekwo held that Mr. Umar is answerable to the Senate on issues bordering on moral standards and conduct.

Justice Ekwo also said the CCT boss failed to display high moral public standards by his conduct.

A video surfaced on 29 March 2021 of Mr. Umar physically assaulting a guard, Clement Sagwak at the Banex Plaza in Wuse 2, Abuja.

Umar struck the guard for reportedly directing him to park his vehicle properly.
