Court Reserves Judgment on Final Forfeiture of 57 Properties Linked to Malami

A Federal High Court in Abuja has reserved judgment in the case seeking the final forfeiture of 57 properties allegedly linked to former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik fixed July 6, 2026 for judgment after taking arguments from counsel representing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the defence.

At Tuesday’s proceedings, EFCC counsel, J.S. Okutepa, SAN, told the court that the matter was for hearing of the final forfeiture application as well as other pending motions.

In response, defence counsel, Adedayo Adedeji, SAN, drew the court’s attention to 16 motions seeking to set aside an earlier interim forfeiture order granted on January 6, 2026.

He argued that the properties were not proceeds of crime and urged the court to dismiss the forfeiture application.

The EFCC opposed the motions, filing counter affidavits and a written address, and urged the court to proceed with the final forfeiture order in favour of the Federal Government.

Okutepa, while adopting the EFCC’s processes, maintained that the defence had failed to show cause why the properties should not be forfeited, and asked the court to grant the application.

After hearing all submissions, Justice Abdulmalik adjourned the case to July 6, 2026 for judgment.
