Court Sets May 26 for DSS to Open Case Against Malami, Son

The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed May 26 for the Department of State Services (DSS) to open its case against former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami and his son, Abdulaziz, over alleged terrorism offences.

At Wednesday’s hearing, prosecution counsel Akinlolu Kehinde (SAN) told the court that an amended charge had been filed, replacing the earlier one.

He applied to withdraw the initial charge and requested that the new one be read for fresh pleas.

Defence counsel Shaibu Aruwa (SAN) confirmed receipt of the amended charge and did not object.

The charges were read, and both defendants pleaded not guilty.

Kehinde then sought a trial date, while Aruwa urged the court to allow his clients to continue on the bail earlier granted.

With no objection from the prosecution, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ruled that the defendants should remain on bail, having met the conditions.

She adjourned the case to May 26 and June 15 for trial.

The DSS alleges that Malami and his son, in December 2025, possessed a firearm and ammunition without a licence and made preparations to commit acts of terrorism.

The charges include unlawful possession of a Sturm Magnum firearm, live cartridges, and expended ammunition, as well as conspiracy under the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
