Popular socialite and businessman Pascal Okechukwu, widely known as Cubana Chief Priest, has lost the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency seat in Imo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The primary election, held on Saturday, was part of APC’s preparations to select candidates for the 2027 polls.
Cubana Chief Priest, who serves as the Imo State Coordinator of the City Boys Movement, had entered the race seeking the party’s ticket for the House of Representatives seat.
The nightlife promoter had earlier purchased the APC expression of interest and nomination forms, saying his ambition was driven by a desire to promote youth empowerment, grassroots development and increased political participation among young people in the constituency.
His entry into partisan politics sparked reactions across Imo State and on social media, with supporters citing his philanthropy and influence among youths as key strengths.
However, critics questioned his political experience and readiness for legislative responsibilities, arguing that popularity in the entertainment and hospitality industry may not automatically translate into electoral success.
Despite his visibility and support for President Bola Tinubu, Cubana Chief Priest failed to secure the APC ticket after polling only 14 votes in the primary election.
Reacting in a video circulating online, the businessman expressed disappointment over the outcome and accused community elders of betraying his trust.
“I’m a hustler, and I didn’t regret trying to contest for a position. My only regret was trusting the elders in the community,” he said.
“I know how much I gave them, but only 14 people voted for me in the primary.”
As of the time of filing this report, APC had yet to officially release the full result of the exercise or announce the final vote tally of the winning aspirant.
