Davido Drops Custody Case Over Daughter Imade After Court Clash

Nigerian singer Davido, has officially withdrawn the custody suit involving his first daughter, Imade Adeleke, following a tense courtroom session that took an emotional turn.

In a series of posts on social media platform X, the Afrobeats superstar clarified that he never sought full custody, but rather intended to secure joint custody of his daughter with his baby mama, Sophia Momodu.

“I never asked for full custody… I asked for joint custody,” Davido wrote, stressing that while neither party won the legal battle, he believes Imade stands to lose the most if the dispute continued.

“Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade… so I don’t know why some people are celebrating. There’s nothing to celebrate,” he added.

The custody dispute came to a head during a recent hearing at the Lagos State High Court in Yaba, where the lawyer representing Sophia reportedly made a reference to Davido’s deceased son, Ifeanyi.

That mention deeply upset the singer, who described it as a “low blow” and a boundary that should not have been crossed.

Davido said he chose to drop the case after the courtroom exchange became personal.

“I’ve decided to drop the case because… until she brought out her last card! MY DECEASED SON! THAT’S A NO NO! Lowest blow!” he wrote.

In another post, Davido did not hold back his criticism of Sophia’s legal team, accusing the opposing lawyer of unprofessional conduct.

He wrote that he had “disgraced” the lawyer in court and described her as a “wicked human being,” adding that he had metaphorically “taught her her job.”

Despite calls from the judge for him to apologise, the singer reportedly refused, saying he could not apologise for objecting to the reference about his late son.

Davido initially filed the suit in 2024, asking the court for joint custody of Imade or, alternatively, unrestricted access to her.

In his affidavit, he stated that he had paid all of his daughter’s school fees and remained involved in her welfare.

The dispute has been one of the most talked-about celebrity custody cases in Nigeria, generating strong reactions from fans and observers alike over the past months.
