Defence Headquarters Boosts Security Nationwide Ahead of Christmas

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced robust security preparations to ensure safety during the upcoming Christmas celebrations.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), in close collaboration with other security agencies, have increased operations across vulnerable areas nationwide.

Additional troops have been deployed to key locations and strategic routes, while special forces and air support units remain on high alert for rapid response, the DHQ said in a statement signed by Major General ME Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations.

Surveillance activities, including aerial monitoring and intelligence gathering, have been intensified to track suspected criminal networks.

Unit commanders have been instructed to boost patrols, establish fortified checkpoints, and work closely with community leaders, local vigilante groups, and state security formations to maintain peace.

“The security and stability of our nation remain our top priority,” the statement said. “Every necessary measure is being taken to ensure Nigerians celebrate Christmas in peace, unity, and joy.”

The DHQ also emphasized the importance of public cooperation. Citizens are urged to stay vigilant, report suspicious activities promptly, and remain calm.

“All reports will be treated with urgency and confidentiality,” it added.

Chief of Defence Staff, General OO Oluyede, extended advance Christmas and New Year greetings to Nigerians and called on all to support ongoing security efforts.

This heightened security posture comes amid growing concerns over potential attacks during festive periods, reinforcing the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
