The Delta State Government has condemned the alleged harassment and assault of women during the Ozoro Festival.
Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, described the incidents as barbaric and unacceptable.
He said the government is disturbed by reports that some women were harassed and sexually assaulted during the celebration.
Aniagwu stressed that cultural festivals must not be used as a cover for criminal acts.
He called on the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to investigate and ensure those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.
The government also urged community leaders and festival organisers to put measures in place to protect participants and prevent a repeat of such incidents.
